Joe Cartwright was born in 1953. He began painting in 1998 and has specialised in Watercolour ever since. He has been painting professionally since 2004 after a 30 year career in sales and marketing.
He has studied watercolour under various tutors
including Joseph Zbukvic and Greg Allen both highly acclaimed Australian
and Internationally renowned artists.
He has a distinctive style, which aims to capture the viewers’ interest and involve them with his work. Joe’s paintings cover a wide range of subjects including landscapes, town life, flowers, portraits and figures. He does not feel inclined to specialise in any one category as each subject can lead to an exciting work of art.
He has been exhibiting at major and regional art shows for a number of years at which he has sold many paintings and has received a number of first prizes and other awards for his work. He recently won first prize for watercolour at the Currabubula Red Cross Art Exhibition and third prize for watercolour at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. He also won first prize in the Local Scene category at the Central Coast Festival of Arts 2008 and first prize for Watercolour at the 2008 Castle Hill Orange Blossom Festival as well as Best in Show at the 2008 Penrith Art Show.
He has had two articles published on his work in the Australian Artist magazine.
