Biography

Joe Cartwright was born in Malta in 1953 and immigrated to Australia three years later with his family. He began painting in 1998 and has specialised in Watercolour ever since. He has been painting professionally since 2004 after a 30 year career in advertising and marketing.

He has studied watercolour under various tutors including Joseph Zbukvic and Greg Allen both highly acclaimed Australian and Internationally renowned artists.

He has a distinctive style, which aims to capture the viewers’ interest and involve them with his work. Joe’s paintings cover a wide range of subjects including landscapes, town life, flowers, portraits and figures. He does not feel inclined to specialise in any one category as each subject can lead to an exciting work of art.

He has been exhibiting at major and regional art shows for a number of years at which he has sold many paintings and has received a number of first prizes and other awards for his work. He recently won Viewers Choice and a Highly Commended at the “Artfest 2007” Exhibition in the Blue Mountains.

He has had two articles published on his work in the Australian Artist magazine.

Joe is a member of both the Nepean Art Society, at which he teaches watercolour, the Macquarie Towns Arts Society and the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre.

His work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas, including the United Kingdom, Japan and the USA.
